------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snow Causes Multiple Accidents Throughout the Town and Surrounding Areas 11/10/08 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Piece of History Destroyed Late In the Night 11/08/08 - At 02:00 Girard 553 Engine and 558 Rescue were called out to assist Platea Volunteer Fire Department on a Bridge Fire. 553 Engine and 558 Rescue responded briefly after dispatch. 553 crews arrived to find the fire still fully envolved after 20 minutes of crews already on scene. 553 Engine and 558 Rescue crews handled the East side of the structure. Fire was extinguished at aproximately 02:20. All Girard equipment returned in-service ready to protect the lives and property of its citizens and surrounding area. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brush Fire Creates a busy afternoon for GFD 11/07/08 - Girard 559 Brush Truck and 553 Engine Company abd fairview Engine 532 was dispatched to Cindy Ln at 16:29. 559 crew responded from US Route 20 and Dobler Rd. 559 Brush arrived on the scene with a working brush fire aproximately 1 acre with an exposure to a structure. 559 took operations to tactical channel 2. 559 Brush started containment and extinguishment of the blaze. 553 and 532 Engine crews assisted 559 brush with extinguishment and water supply. Command (540) called the fire under control at 16:52. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Afternoon MVA 11/07/08 - At aproximately 13:44 Girard 558 rescue, 557 ambulance and 559 utility were dispatched to assist Fairview fire on a rollover crash on US Route 98. Moments later 558, 557, and 559 responded with full crews. Frankline Township Chief 730 arrived to confire one vehicle on the roof with heavy damage to the vehicle. Fairview 531 assumed command of the scene. 558 and 557 arrived on scene and were put in-service per 531 fairview command. 559 crew was assigned to shut down US Route 98 at Market St and US Route 98.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LODD Lawrence Park VFD - Aerial Device Failure 04/08/08 - Black Cloth hangs from the Lawerence Park fire station today after fallen brother Michael D. Crotty passed away this afternoon. Michael D. Crotty was a well known deputy fire chief with Lawerence Park FD and was recently hired at the City of Erie FD. Lawerence Park FD was dispatched to assist Harborcreek with a working industrial fire at Port Erie Plastics, 909 Troupe Road. Crotty and his fellow firefighters from lawerence park were at the scene of the working industrial fire when Lawerence Parks aerial (289) had a catastrophic failure when a portion of the master stream waterway separated from the main ladder, fell and struck chief Crotty. Crotty was air lifted by Lifestar to Hamot ER where he was Pronounced dead. Chief Crotty was operating in a command role at the time of the failure. The reasons for the catastrophic failure is undetermined at this time. Our sincere condolences to Lawerence Park VFD, Harborcreek VFD, and especially to the Family and friends of Chief Michael D. Crotty.

Dobler Hose had taken 558 to there class to fill air bottles during there live burn session at franklin township burn tower. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another Brush Fire Keeps GFD Busy 4/03/08 - Another brush fire in the same day keeps Dobler Hose Busy. Around 1700 hrs Girard was dispatched for a 1 acre brush fire with exposures on rt 20. 553 responded and arrived to find a 1 1/2 acre brush fire with exposures of multiple houses. 553 had command 558 and 557 arrived and 557 crew started helping 553 crew with extinguishments assignments. 558 crew started a fire line to stop the fire from growing. Command asked dispatch for 649 and 644 from springfield. 649 and 644 arrived as the fire was put under control. 649 and 644 helped with hot spots and water supply. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Brush Fire of the Year 4/03/08 - Brush fire season starts early for Girard. Today around noon we were dispatched for a 1 acre brush/grass fire in front of Bob Ferrando in Girard. Lake city Fire was dispatched for an engine to assist. Girard Engine 553 and LCFC Engine 563 responded to the scene.
